About

Yes, a model could generate this

Everyone who lands here thinks it, so it may as well be said out loud. You could ask a model for an admin page and get markup back in about twenty seconds.

That is true, and it is true about the half of this that does not matter. Generation stopped being the hard part a while ago. What did not get commoditised is taste, and neither did a durable artifact: a design decision somebody made well, written out in the engine you actually use, checked before it went on sale, and maintained afterwards.

Generating one page is easy. Generating eight pages that look like the same person designed them, at four breakpoints, with the empty state and the error state and the disabled state all agreeing with each other, is not. And when it comes back not quite right, you are the one who has to know why.

That is the whole product. Not the format conversion, which is the mechanical part. The judgement, already made.

Where the name came from

A printing press was the first component library. Gutenberg's real invention was not the machine, it was reusable type: set it once, then print it onto whatever paper you have.

That is exactly this. The design is the type. Thymeleaf, FreeMarker, JTE and plain HTML are the paper. You set a page once and it prints into whatever your application already renders.

Works means workshop. Somewhere things are made by hand in small batches, rather than generated. And if you know coffee, a press is also how you make it, which is the only Java joke in the name and the only one you will find here.
